European fashion and lifestyle platform Zalando is launching a Pre-Owned category in Germany this fall.
The company says that people will be able to buy and sell their preloved items in a “digital space […] with the look, feel and convenience of Zalando.” The categories available will be Women’s, men’s and kids’.
Zalando previously tested the waters for secondhand clothing with the Wardrobe app and the Zircle six-month store pilot in Berlin. Zalando svp product design Anne Pascua highlighted that despite Wardrobe only being available in Germany for women’s fashion, the app has a six-digit customer base.
By getting into secondhand fashion, Zalando is looking to tap into two big trends: the desire to declutter, and customers opting for preloved items to either find something unique or for sustainability reasons.
Shoppers will be able to benefit from Zalando’s generous 100-days free returns policy with the secondhand section, something that perhaps will set the retailer apart from others in the category.
