Swedish retailer H&M is to start trialling the sale of secondhand clothing through its & Other Stories brand, Reuters reports.

Responding to consumer concerns about the environmental impact of fast fashion, the pilot project will launch on & Other Stories’ Swedish site thanks to a partnership with secondhand start-up Sellpy.

The aim is to expand the idea to other brands and markets in the coming years, H&M’s head of sustainability Anna Gedda said at an event in Berlin on the future of fashion.

According to online thrift store ThredUp, the market for secondhand apparel is set to double in size to $51bn over the next five years.
