Violette Sauvage Fashion Flea Market

Saturday 1 April is the 4th edition of the Violette Sauvage fashion flea market at the Carreau du Temple in Paris. Fashionistas clearing out their closets means you can expect to find preloved pieces from the likes of Sandro, Chloe and Louis Vuitton at a fraction of the retail price. Like all Violette Sauvage events, there is set to be something for every budget, so also expect to see items from Zara, Mango and H&M. The event promises some 400 stallholders over 2,000m2, as well as a DJ, beauty bar, wine tastings and a fortune teller. It’s the most hotly anticipated … Continue reading Violette Sauvage Fashion Flea Market

Friday blues

Every time I think spring has finally arrived in Paris, it starts to rain. Today’s outfit is all a bit blue: H&M jacket that I originally bought for a friend but which she said looks better on me (I wasn’t going to argue with that); See by Chloé patterned top, and J brand jeans. Everything was bought secondhand in Paris. If you haven’t yet tried J brand I recommend you do so, but if you can’t justify the price tag, I find H&M and Zara jeans to be very good as well. The Miu Miu perfume in the picture was … Continue reading Friday blues

Dress in the City

Another day, another sustainable fashion concept. Dress in the City stands out for the way it combines the sale of preloved items online and in brick-and-mortar stores. Launched by Florence Faure, Dress in the City allows people to buy (and sell) via its app and e-boutique, as well as at pop-up stores in shopping centres in Ile-de-France. Dress in the City will be at the Parly 2 shopping centre from March 22 – April 1, 2017, at So Ouest from 19-29 April and at Vélizy 2 from 20-30 April. In store, the peculiarity lies in the method of purchase. You register … Continue reading Dress in the City

La fripe c’est chic: Neith Nyer Paris fashion week show at Guerrisol

Up-and-coming brand Neith Nyer showcased its fall-winter 2017-2018 collection at Parisian thrift store Guerrisol during Paris Fashion Week. Brazilian designer Francisco Terra, who previously worked at Givenchy and Carven, presented a collection that was very thrift-store chic with a retro vibe. Models sported some funky headgear, sheer black fabrics, pastels and floral prints. My favourite look was the leopard print coat teamed with relaxed denim. Black and white

Going to hip bars in Paris requires a suitably cool outfit, and since Parisians mostly seem to wear black or white, or sometimes grey, I decided to go for a monochrome look. This outfit is a collection of secondhand finds sourced in the French capital. Because who does style better than the French? Boots, H&M bought at a vide grenier. Opening Ceremony cut off sweat tee and The Kooples zebra sequins skirt, both from Emmaüs. Continue reading Black and white

A visit to En Voiture Simone

Recently opened Parisian concept store En Voiture Simone sells a range of secondhand vintage and contemporary designers. Preloved pieces include items from the likes of Kenzo, Charlotte Olympia, Carven and Saint Laurent. The careful curation of items makes for an enjoyable browsing experience, and ensures you don’t miss something fabulous. Having said to my friend not five minutes before how I needed a new pair of trainers, I immediately honed in on the pair of blue seude Pumas with houndstooth detail (pictured). They were unworn and I paid €55. Given that I haven’t taken them off since, I’ll definitely be getting my money’s … Continue reading A visit to En Voiture Simone

Emmaüs Alternatives mega vente au kilo

French solidarity movement Emmaüs is organizing a giant clothing sale this week in Paris, with 1 kilo costing 10€. Spread over some 900m2 of sales space will be clothing for men, women and children, as well as accessories and household linens. And apparently, some big brand names will be up for grabs, so get ready to rummage. The sale will also feature an upcycling space, and the Les Résilientes X Emmaüs Alternatives  collaboration will also be present, with some funky lights made from coat hangers. A collection point will be set up at the entrance of the event (entry is … Continue reading Emmaüs Alternatives mega vente au kilo

A visit to Come on Eileen at Bastille

A few doors down from dépôt vente Le Cloakroom on rue des Taillandiers in the Bastille neighbourhood of Paris is Come on Eileen. You might remember that I previously wrote about Come on Eileen in the Parisian suburb of Kremlin-Bicêtre, and there is a third outpost on rue de Rivoli which I’m yet to explore. Come on Eileen looks like a musty vintage shop at first glance, but is actually home to some surprisingly modern treasures–designer names like Saint Laurent and Jean-Paul Gaultier jostle for space with Zadig & Voltaire cashmere, Vanessa Bruno coats and Manoush dresses. If you don’t spend time going through … Continue reading A visit to Come on Eileen at Bastille

Designer brands sale at Emmaüs Boutique Davout

Today, Saturday  4 March, is a special designer brands sale (Vente Spéciale Marques) at the Emmaüs Boutique in Paris’ 20th arrondissement. The sale started yesterday, so I went along to see what brands and bargains were to be had. A special mention goes to the Isabel Marant silk skirt that’s perfect for summer–probably one of the best items in the shop and sure to get snapped up quickly, at €35.50. There were a pair of black patent Chanel heels for €135, and, my personal favourite, a black Miu Miu wool mini skirt for €65.50. I absolutely loved the skirt, but it was very mini indeed, … Continue reading Designer brands sale at Emmaüs Boutique Davout
