A visit to La Cloakroom dépôt-vente

La Cloakroom in the Bastille area of Paris is the kind of dépôt-vente that looks like a high-end boutique. Clothes are nicely spaced on the rails, everything is in perfect condition, and the space is light and airy. It’s been open for about a year and a half, and according to the girl who runs it, does well as there are no other dépôt-ventes in the area. From Balenciaga to Ba&sh, La Cloakroom has a great selection of on-trend pieces from some of the hottest labels around. Prices are quite reasonable too, with something for every budget; an Oasis tartan top was €15, a … Continue reading A visit to La Cloakroom dépôt-vente

This week’s fashion finds

This week’s fashion finds are not mine, but a those of a friend. (There’s no way I’d fit in that skirt). The red, long-sleeved vintage blouse was €2 at Emmaus, ditto for the dark purple wool Cacharel skirt. And the boots, originally from Jonak, were €8 from Ma Ressourcerie in Paris’ 13th arrondissement. A whole outfit for just over €10, with all proceeds going to good causes. Continue reading This week’s fashion finds

A visit to Bis Boutique Solidaire

Bis Boutique Solidaire is a Parisian secondhand shop with a difference. One, it’s cheap for Paris, and two, its concept revolves around the social and solidarity-based economy. In other words, buy from Bis Boutique, and you’ll be getting a fashion bargain while helping others. Bis Boutique buys items wholesale from associations in Paris and Ile de France, allowing these associations to finance their actions in support of deprived populations. It then sells, recycles or gives clothing to partner associations. Since 2012, Bis Boutique Solidaire has helped over 100 people by employing and training them, enabling over two-thirds to find work … Continue reading A visit to Bis Boutique Solidaire

Shopping solidaire at Les Grands Voisins

Off the beaten track in Paris is a special sort of utopian village that makes you feel as though you are in the heart of life in the countryside rather than in the middle of the French capital. Les Grands Voisins is a project that brings together associations and institutions in the area of social and solidarity-based economy. Set up on what was once the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul hospital in Paris’ 14th arrondissement, the site includes accommodation, ateliers, a shop selling secondhand and up-cycled goods, and a cafe/bar that’s proven popular with the hipster crowd. Today was the Marché des Grands Voisins, a secondhand … Continue reading Shopping solidaire at Les Grands Voisins

Les Agaçantes braderie chic March 2017

Les Agançantes has announced the next date of its braderie chic in Paris. Taking place on March 11 and 12 in an 850m2 showroom, the event promises new and secondhand clothes, bags, shoes and accessories priced at €5 and €10. Entry is €2, and includes a free coffee. I’ve been to this event a couple of times before, although this will be the first time it is hosted in a new, bigger venue. Be prepared to queue, and I’d advise getting there well before it opens. At these prices, the best things get snapped up very quickly. But, be warned–as stallholders can only sell items … Continue reading Les Agaçantes braderie chic March 2017

eBay to launch authentification program for secondhand luxury goods

Although I’m yet to buy a secondhand designer bag online, my default go-to website for a quick browse is always Vestiaire Collective. Why? Because when you buy an item via the site, it is automatically inspected by Vestiaire Collective’s team, who are said to be highly trained in spotting counterfeits. So you can be sure that what you are forking out a lot of money for is indeed the genuine article. Probably the last place I would look is eBay, because we so often hear stories of people buying goods that turn out to be fake—Christina Warren of Gizmodo wrote … Continue reading eBay to launch authentification program for secondhand luxury goods

Les Emplettes vente flash

Parisian pop-up Les Emplettes is back this weekend with a flash sale. This mini edition spanning just two days is sure to throw up some great secondhand bargains, so I’ll definitely be stopping by. During the December edition, labels for sale included Eric Bompard, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Sandro, Maje and Balmain, so I’m excited to see what will be on the rails this time around. Les Emplettes, 11 rue Debelleyme 75003 Paris. From 14-15 January 10am-8pm Continue reading Les Emplettes vente flash

Oxfam online boutique 70% off sale

Oxfam UK is currently running a sale on its online boutique, with up to 70% off preloved clothing and accessories. There are many great bargains to be had, too. If I had size 5 feet I’d be snapping up the black Burberry courts (pictured) that are now just £28.50, down from £95. I also love the purple strapless Karen Millen dress, which is now a mere £4.79, down from £15.99. I posted a picture of this dress on Instagram – it looks stunning. There’s also a black Gucci dress for £52.50, down from £175, and a Hobbs black and white dress for £15 instead of £50. The item I’m most drawn to, … Continue reading Oxfam online boutique 70% off sale
